accidentsuicide

“If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.”

- 1 Corinthians 3:17

Two parts are especially important here:
anyone defiles and which temple you are. This tells us that not only is murder a sin, but so is suicide because you are “anyone”.

And as Deuteronomy 5:17 quite clearly says Thou shalt not kill. Kill, by definition is simply “cause the death of (a person, animal, or other living thing)” based on New Oxford American Dictionary.

So, is accidental suicide a sin? Yes, and more specifically anything that harms your body at all. For example, if you smoke you are sinning because you are not treating your body as a temple, and if you die from lung cancer due to the smoking then you have not only killed yourself, not intentionally, but gave yourself lung cancer because of it, and you ruined your temple.

Another example would be drinking and getting alcohol poisoning, or getting drunk and then getting in a car wreck and dying from it. Getting drunk and for any reason end up dying because you were drunk you will go to hell because you ruined your temple by drinking, then killed yourself because of it.

Just one more example would be if you had a eating problem. Whether it’s eating too little or too much or eating too fatty of foods, you will go to hell if for any reason you die from any of these reasons. If you die from choosing to not eat because of anorexia or bulimia for example, you will go to hell because you died from it and were not treating your body well. If you die from a disease connected with the fact of eating too much whatever that is, you will go to hell for the same reason. Just eating bad food like fast or junk food is harming your body, so is a sin, but you will most likely not die from it, so we can assume you will be saved or forgiven before you die for eating the bad food.

Basically, anything that defiles your body in any way, shape or form and you end up dying from it whether drugs, alcohol, disorders, stupidity, or purely accidental you will go to hell for killing yourself.

Guess there is going to be a lot more people in hell than I was expecting to see there.

So, when I’m in my late nineties and I am watching pornographic videos and I go into cardiac arrest because I became overly excited, I will go to hell because I was sinning when my ended… To each his own, man, however everyone has different beliefs and opinions and interpretations, just remember no matter what, God is love.

Oscar Godson 20.03.10

God is love? Interesting, because if I remember right, he has killed more people in the Bible than the devil? http://dwindlinginunbelief.blogspot.com/2006/08/who-has-killed-more-satan-or-god.html

This website is full of shi* for telling people what they will go to hell for. Plenty of christians that have loved and had faith in God fall off the path and do dumb things like drinking themselves to death. That doesn’t mean they are in hell.

Oscar Godson 02.05.10

Can you please prove how you wouldnt go to hell? I explained, with proof and snippets from the Bible. What is your proof, or is the truth just what you want the truth to be?

William Ware 18.05.10

Well there is only one unforgivable sin and that is blasphemy against the holy spirit. Jesus died to save us from everything else. John 3:16 clearly states, “For GOD so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believed in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” With this in mind, Jesus also died for the sins of suicide… etc. Matthew 12:31 says that ALL (which includes the others that you mentioned)sins and blasphemies shall be forgiven but only blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.

Oscar Godson 18.05.10

I have to give you props. Not many Christians know about the “unforgivable” sin. In any case, as the name states, it’s an unforgivable sin. This simply means you can’t be forgiven. No matter what the sin, you MUST be forgiven or else you go to hell. It’s what the Bible says, unless, of course, you have your own meaning?

William Ware 18.05.10

Thank you for the props. They are greatly appreciated.

You do have to repent in order to be saved but this is not the where the difference in opinion truly lies. I believe that you do have to repent but not during any particular time, for example, if you were to repent before you did something. This may seem crazy but allow me to finish. To repent is to feel sorry for or to turn away from something. When we Jesus died for us he covered all sin except blasphemy. Therefore if ye believe in him you shall eternal life. This was done by GOD because people were dying in sin but those people still desired to do right and be with GOD. The only reason we sin in the first place is because we have not seen GOD. (III John 1:11)

Repentance during confession that Jesus is Lord= salvation. Repentance afterwards are works done by man to get closer to GOD. I am unsure where the scripture is but it says in some form… “Do not conform any longer to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind then you will be able to test and approve what GOD’s will is his good pleasing an perfect will.” We repent so that we can be happy.. so that we can approve and be happy in his good and perfect will. To defile a temple of the Lord our God is a sin… we agree. Do you agree that this is not blasphemy against the Holy Spirit? Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is when you deny that HE exist. When you destroy that is not denial that is destroying.

*** The lord does not approve of suicide or anything that would defile HIS temple that he created in you. This type of conversation should NEVER be the determining factor on whether you choose to do so. If you feel down or out God will always make a way to help you regardless of what it is. Always choose life for the lord God has created you to live. This may just be your way out here…. *** 1-800-273TALK ***

I love to talk with others concerning the word. It always brightens my day to know that people are concerned about what the Lord has said!

Right you must be forgiven or else you will die, but Jesus has died for us. Therefore we will not die. That’s what the word says unless you have your own meaning? lol

like all individual “sound bites” of scripture, First Cor 3:17 must be understood within the context of the entire chapter…

1Co 3:3 For you are yet fleshly. For where among you is JEALOUSY, and STRIFE, and DIVISIONS, are you not FLESHLY and walk according to man?
1Co 3:4 For when one may say, Truly I am of Paul, and another, I of Apollos; are you not fleshly?
1Co 3:5 What then is Paul? And what Apollos, but ministers through whom you believed, and to each as the Lord gave?
1Co 3:6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God made to grow.
1Co 3:7 So as neither he planting is anything, nor he watering, but God making to grow……..

Co 3:16 Do you not know that you (or ye all) are a sanctuary of God, and the Spirit of God dwells in (or among) you?
1Co 3:17 If anyone corrupts the sanctuary of God, God will bring that one to corruption; for the sanctuary of God is holy, which you (ye all) are.

The context of the chapter is talking about supposed apostles who are either assuming or seeking preeminence/predominance. This insecure attitude starts a corrosive influence within the Church body, or “organism”, which ultimately leads to dictatorial ascendancy. This works just like a cancer: when a cell in your body tries to become IT’S OWN ENTITY, we aptly call this destructive influence “cancer” (to be hard, like the shell of a crab)

The scripture is saying that God will destroy those who do not find “strength in [compatible] weakness” rather than the false armor [fig leaf] of ascendancy. This certainly occurred for that
revealed “man”(plural–anthropos)of sin during the carnage of 70 AD.
Remember the words of a certain poet: “a translation is a beautiful dream, but it’s just a dream”.

As to the vaguely related issue of accidental suicide, I quote John Travolta from “Saturday Night Fever”…. “There’s ways of killing yourself without[literally] killing yourself”. For this, you are certainly a partaker of the “first-death” hinted at in Revelation. There is no “second death” for such a one…. When they die they do not go to a “place”, because that would intimate that their soul is immortal, which it is not (Rom 8:13) Hell, is not a place, but a state of nothingness in absence of the breath of life, or presence of God.
