This is part of the Land of the Free series.
Religion in America has, unfortunately, always been mixed with politics. Not only is this unfair and unethical, it’s against our constitution:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Also, in an excerpt of the Treaty of Tripoli:
As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion;[...]
I agree completely with these two documents and I think that is how America, or the Land of the Free, should be. This means no religion should ever be chosen over another and it should be looked down upon for anyone to preach to someone who doesn’t want to be preached to, however, you should be able to preach anywhere at anytime. Anything run by the government from the 3 Fundamental Rights of Every Human Being should not include any religious texts at all. This includes schools.
Religion should be taught, but should be taught as history or any other subject. This means that it should be taught without bias. This also means no mixing religious scripture with science such as creationism. It should be taught from a factual standpoint. Explain what those beliefs believe in, how they became to be, etc.
All references or religion and God(s) should be removed from everything owned and run by the government such as money or the court. The government should never ask you to swear on a Bible or God as this chooses a religion over the other.
America’s dollar bills should no longer read “One nation under God”
“amen” to that
But without religious texts, where do you establish your basic moral code from?
